History

Angus Management was founded in 1988 as a specialized management consultancy practice. Initially operated as a sole proprietorship, in 1992 the firm was formally incorporated as Angus Consulting Inc., and continued its operations as Angus Management.

Immediately prior to the firm's inception, our founder, Joseph Bowes, was involved with two corporate start-ups: one was a large private company (growing to over 400 employees and ultimately sourcing some US $75 million in funding) where he was a senior financial executive and a member of the executive management committee, and; the other involved a smaller venture (growing to 10 employees and sourcing Cdn $2 million in funding) where Joseph was one of three founders.

The specialized focus of our practice is a direct result of: Joseph's entrepreneurial experience in these start-ups; as focused by 6-1/2 years of 'Big-Four' professional firm training – 4 years in the finance and business management consulting practice of Pricewaterhouse-Coopers (then known as Price Waterhouse Associates), and 2-1/2 years with KPMG (then known as Peat Marwick Mitchell) – and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

Since 1988, Angus Management has had the privilege of working with numerous clients ranging from the resource sector to retail to high tech. With virtually all of our clients, we have been intimately involved in the process of developing and documenting a sound business case for investment. Our roles have proven to be quite varied – from a specialist consultant reporting to senior management; to a mentor guiding client staff; to a senior manager with direct “hands-on” involvement (client secondment) typically as the COO or CFO.

Throughout this work, the high performance work teams involved have been quite varied – from those involving Angus Management staff exclusively; to mainly client staff with Angus Management in a project management role; to Angus Management assuming either a leadership or supporting role as part of a larger, multi-disciplinary team of outside consultants and client staff.
